SPRINGFIELD – After a comprehensive clean energy package passed the General Assembly following years of negotiations, State Senator Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago) released the following statement:
“Illinois is creating a strong path forward by passing legislation that addresses the ongoing climate crisis. With the state on track to 100% clean energy, we are protecting the lives of Illinoisans into the future.
“Today Illinois became a leader nationwide in addressing the climate crisis. We have established an aggressive plan to get to 100% clean energy by 2050 and are on a path toward a cleaner, greener state for future generations.
“No piece of legislation this complex is ever perfect. However, all corners of our diverse state had to be considered when trying to balance a reliable energy portfolio, while prioritizing the climate crisis, which we all know is very real. Protecting the environment for future generations and leaving them a habitable world has always been my goal. This is a comprehensive climate and energy policy and a giant step forward to protect the environment.”
