Feigenholtz brings vehicle emissions testing back to Chicago

A new Chicago testing site will open on Monday, March 17, thanks to State Senator Sara Feigenholtz who worked tirelessly to bring vehicle emissions testing sites back to Chicago.

“Chicago residents will have a shorter drive, shorter lines, and an easier time complying with the law when these stations reopen in the city,” said Feigenholtz (D-Chicago).

The previous governor’s administration unilaterally cut four testing sites within the city limits, leaving drivers in a lurch and forcing them to spend hours traveling to the suburbs.

In response to countless constituent calls to restore closer sites, Feigenholtz responded despite some pushback from the EPA. Feigenholtz spearheaded Senate Bill 1234, requiring the EPA to submit a plan to open testing sites in Chicago, outlining potential locations, implementation plans and timelines.

The testing site is located at 6959 W. Forest Preserve Dr. in Chicago and opens on March 17 at 8 a.m.

The Illinois EPA is also working to provide six decentralized inspection facilities, four self-serve kiosk locations and two Mobile Testing Units throughout the city, which will be listed on the Illinois AirTeam website once available for use.
