CHICAGO – State Senator Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago) released the following statement after Governor JB Pritzker’s joint State of the State and Budget Address for Fiscal Year 2027:
“The budget that Governor JB Pritzker presented yesterday is a prudent, compassionate response to the Trump administration’s chaos and threats to cut funding for Illinoisans. This budget proposal puts the needs of Illinoisans first, without placing new burdens on taxpayers. I especially support the governor’s proposals to address the housing shortage by reducing barriers to housing construction, expanding access to diverse and affordable housing types, and investing in down payment assistance.
This budget reflects the fiscal discipline our governor has prioritized since the beginning. Because of that discipline, Illinois is on solid ground to handle leaner budget years without neglecting the programs that keep Illinois families afloat. I will continue to work to pass a budget that expands housing opportunities and ensures that Illinois is ready to meet its responsibilities to all residents — regardless of the federal government’s attempts to undercut the needs of our state.”
