State Senator Sara Feigenholtz celebrated the grand opening of Lakeview Landing, a new, 37-unit affordable housing development that will provide accessible, independent living options to Chicagoans with disabilities.
“Lakeview Landing represents our commitment to investing in and supporting affordable housing infrastructure in every neighborhood,” Feigenholtz (D-Chicago) said. “It’s the perfect example of what can be accomplished when community leaders, nonprofits and government come together to create new opportunities and services for people with disabilities in our communities.”
The development is the result of a partnership between the city of Chicago, Lakeview Lutheran Church and the Evanston-based nonprofit Over the Rainbow Association. Located at the corner of West Addison Street and North Reta Avenue in Lakeview, the building replaced the previous Lakeview Lutheran Church after the church donated its property to Over the Rainbow for development. All 37 units are disability-accessible, affordable rental units built with the principles of universal design and shared community space. From roll-in showers and pull-under sinks to low-top appliances and cabinets for wheelchair users, each unit is designed with seamless accessibility in mind.
“Affordable housing has always been a top priority for me,” said Feigenholtz. “I’m committed to supporting accessible options that center independence and connect people to their communities.”
